I'm currently finishing a quilt top destined for a friends baby in Brisbane, Australia. I'm trying to decide what to use for batting and how warm/cool to make the quilt. I'm hoping to keep it a surprise so didn't want to ask her but I believe it's generally warm over there. It has a cotton top and backing and i'm currently considering using flannel as the batting. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for this climate as I'd like the quilt to be used so thought it would be best to not be to hot? Thanks

when you google average temp in australia it say the low is around 59 and highs 94 take a look a see what you find on google

Warmer than New Zealand! I would go with a thin, lighter weight batting. A day or so ago there was another thread on this board about batting and in it there was a chart comparing different battings (silk, bamboo, cotton, polyester, wool, etc.) with their warmth rating and other characteristics that would be of help to you, so scroll back in the Main board category a few days and review this info. I've been to both Australia and New Zealand and you live in a beautiful part of the world!!!

I wouldn't worry too much about how warm the quilt is. Baby quilts are used for many purposes, not just wrapping the baby.

Most people who live in warmer areas use air conditioning, so regular quilts will work for them as well. I usually use Quilters Dream Request for everything.

I am a New Zealander and have lived in Brisbane It can be very cold there in the winter months, well I thought it was cold, but no snow of course.I would make your quilt just the same as you would make any other baby's quilt

I have started using the silk/bamboo batting for baby quilts now. It is naturally hypoallergenic and it is a weight that can be used year round. It is cool in the summer and warmer in the winter. I get it from Seaside Quilting and the price is basically the same and usually with free shipping.
