Joyce, I like the idea of using black, and it would show case the prints nicely. Even a dark purple Kona might be nice. Thank you.

All good ideas for pastel backgrounds. I have found that adding a little red or black perks up the 30s repros. Just looks a bit dull to me without.

Growing up in the 60's I had a double wedding ring quilt with pink instead of white for the background. Oh, how I wish I knew the background to that one.

There are solid 30's fabrics as well. My favorite is a pale green. I think the solids are harder to find, but you could goggle it.

This is "Nile" green:

I have used navy blue and eggplant as background colors for my 30's quilts with great success. The darker colors are a perfect backdrop for all the 30's colors.

I have recently become really fond of really small dots on my backgrounds. I am also playing alot with scrappy neutrals. Just a thought!

I like a pale green or pink with 1930s quilts. I have one made by my mother and the colors were rather bright instead of pastel. It is bound in kelly green and so is the backing. I wish I could see the fabrics you used in your quilt.

The pastels are a good choice if you are making a child's quilt. I have seen some adult ones done with a medium grey that looked really neat. It makes those fabrics pop.

Ok, this is what I came up with. New pattern, the blocks will have a stashing of the purple with dots and then another stashing of the purple with dots plus some white squares. I think it will work out. Thanks everyone.
