Jane, either outline the designs on the Cowboy side, or tie the quilt very close together, that way no stitching on either side. Just a thought.

If you put the Cowboys fabric face down on the muslin and sew and then turn it, won't the Cowboys fabric cover the denim side? Seems like it would to me. Or am I thinking backwards? (That's been known to happen!)

you cant maybe you can quilt it with a clear thread so that the quilting wont show up as much as it would with regular thread

You won't need a batting with denim on the front. I would either tie from the back so you don't interrupt the Cowboy pattern, or machine quilt from the back following a design on the Cowboy fabric. He will lov eit no matter what you deside. dani

My daughter had the same request. I used very small stitches and tie it. Let your tails be on the denim side and have the thread blend with the cowboys design. It worked great for me and my daughter was pleased.

Hi, Jane! Lots of good ideas here. I like Patrice's idea of tacking by taking loooong stitches in a matching thread.

Crazy quilts used to be done by tying from the back, catching only the seam of the front. It appeared there was no quilting. I thought about that until I realized your backing has no seams... (So I did not read your explanation too well at the beginning. Sorry.)

Thanks mom, I am almost done with the top. Would like to work on the getting it finished this weekend. Have a few more ideas to add to it like some applique on the top. After measuring I think I will have a yard left over of the backing so wanted to cut out some of the logos and applique them in the center of the star. Could you pm me with instructions on the easiest way to do that? I am guessing I will need some wonder under or something but one problem with that it is called money. The budget for this thing is used up, how much does it cost, and I will have to try and get it online as I dont have a place to go here to buy it. Anyway the top is going ok but my stars are not the best in the world but he wont care cause I made it. Thanks

You can!!! Just watched Eleanor Burns on RFD tv last night and caught the last five minutes of finishing the Almanac Quilt.
EB, at the end of the show, demonstrated sewing blocks to batting, (whole piece or large enough for quilt & borders) and added a block at a time in rows. So lay block on batting right side up, place sashing right side down at bottom of block, sew, flip sashing, smooth, press, pin down, add next block, right side facing sashing and so on down the row. Outside full length sashings take care of themselves, but my dog started making that weird noise before they barf so I ran with her to back door. Missed width sashing between rows. This was like the 13th show and they may rerun it. Anyhow she sewed the backing fabric to top and batting and turned it right side out (birthed) thru opening, straightened, sewed opening and straightened pinned and stitched around quilt edge. So anyway you do all your stitch in the ditch quilting as you lay down each block. Do double check for steps and method.
Your library might have a copy of her book as she shows step by step in her books. Check half.com, ebay, amazon for used copy. YES YOU CAN.

I'm with Nonnie on this one. Since it is a denim quilt, it will not require a batting. I would tie small knots in the Stars, either in the points, or in the center of the stars, or maybe even a combo. If you trim them close, they will not take away from the print. I am not sure that you can stitch denim with clear thread, either nylon or polyester.....I too am a Dallas fan, and would love to have that print. Do you know who made it? I am sure that he will love his treasure, and it will be warm to boot! If the Dallas print is 100% cotton, you may see if they offer it in fleece, and that would make it easier to tie and increase the warmth for an "at home--mid-winter game!"
Go Cowboys! We are rooting for our boys to take it all the way to the super bowl this year, which just so happens to be being played at our brand new stadium...I am sure he will love his new quilt! (Hurry, preseason is just around the corner!) LOL Have fun!

Andy, thanks for the comments, i got the fabric at Walmart and it is a licensed fabric and you can find it on ebay too. I paid a little less at Walmart cause it is 8.99 on some online shopsl Yes they do have fleece but have never really worked with it so thought i would try that another time. Right now appliqueing square of the fabric to the white stars and then sandwich and quilt, found it to be not so heavy as i thought so will put in a layer of batting. The denim I am using is not a thick kind, in fact kind of thin so will try it. Have decided to outline the stars on the front and i think should be enough quilting to keep batting in place. Will make final choice of that after completeing that portion. Will be seeing him in September so have some time to finish.
