Same here. Perhaps it depends on the brand? I use Quilters Dream Request, which is meant to be one of the best, and I've heard that some other brands are much harder to needle.

No problem handquilting cotton for me
I notice a lot more needle drag as compared to wool and my stitch length is a tad longer in cotton.

There is a lot of information here about their batting. I have used nothing but Quilters Dream since it came out and absolutely love it. Fabulous product...and no I don't work for them.

love warm and natural but not good for hand quilting ,so use poly ---softer/higher loft/more comforting.
