homemade extension table?

homemade extension table?
I just got a new Viking Sapphire 835 and its sitting on my sewing cabinet.
I'm wondering if anyone has made an extension table?
I don't need one that goes all around, just to the left and in front of the machine.
Hubby thinks he can make it fairly easily with some plexiglass and cut some wood
to make a 'box' to support the plexi.
Any thoughts anyone???

My DH has done this for 3 of my machines. He cuts a hole in the cabinet and builds a box to hold the machine. It has to sit level with the cabinet. He has made the insert for 1 of them but found it was just a little bit more to buy them. I believe the one for my Viking was about $70. Just be sure to get the insert before you cut the hole. Hope this helps.

Go to lowes and get a piece of plexiglass. Measure your machine for the cut out, My husband drilled holes in the plexiglass and used doweling for the legs and inset the screws so they would not catch the fabric. We also took a piece of plastic hose and cut a slit and slid it over the front of the glass for the fabric to slide on as the edge of the glass kept catching the fabric even after being smoothed. Doing it this way makes it easier to take places if need be. Hope this helps.

No DH here to help. I had mine made by a local plastics company. I traced around my machine then ironed a few layers of freezer paper together and cut out the insert. Once I confirmed it fit the machine properly, I took it to the plastics company, they cut the acryllic, smoothed the edges, and drilled the holes for feet. I had something at home I could use for feet, so no need to have dowling cut for this.

My husband has made two, one for Pfaff 1473 and one for Viking 1100. He used Plexiglas and put some feet on them. I don't use them any more because he got me a Horn cabinet where the machine raises and lowers and has a plexiglass covering for the hole opening. But the others worked okay when needed.
