I'll be heading over to Walmart today to compare it to the original just to see if I'm blowing it out of proportion.. maybe the loss wasn't *that* bad but man it was a river of red that ran from it and a lot of hand washing under running water before it looked like it was done doing its thing...
I'm going to also go to a different Hancocks and a Hobby Lobby today to see if I can find a replacement for it....
I'll let you guys know how it turns out.
And yeah, the evil empire is Walmart lol. Everyone seems to complain about their fabric so I had to make a giggle out of it. Usually I call it Wallyworld (Family Vacation, sorry folks, Wallyworld is closed), but in this case, the Evil Empire sounded funnier to me ;)

Yarn I hope it works out for you. When you find your new treasure take a pic before you wash it and show us?

Walmart is usually pretty good about returing stuff. Especially if you have your receipt.
I've returned fabric there before because it didn't match what I needed it fot when I got home, so they should for sure do it with something like that!
They will take it back to the fabric Dept. and measure it to make sure its still the same size you paid for. If its not, then they will only refund how much you have with you. For example, if you paid for 3 yards but only returned 2 you will only get the money back for 2.

Have you tried using Dye Grabber? I use this on every
type of material I pre wash and have never had a problem.
You can buy this at Hancocks. It works with any water
temperature setting. It does change colors after using it
in the washer. But the peace of mind of not having a
material bleed out on you is wonderful. Just a new person
on this quilting board. Thanks for all the wonderful
message posted each day. I really enjoy all the neat

I use Retayne with commercial fabrics and Synthrapol with hand-dyes and
have never had a problem. I didn't want to spend the money but I learned
to quilt watching Alex Anderson's show "Simply Quilts" and when she admitted
that she had a fabric run and ruin one of her quilts, I bought a few bottles of each.

I decided to just keep it and use it for the backing to the runners. I compared it to the original and it was quite a bit lighter but not as bad as I originally thought but most of the lighter purple areas in my washed fabric is now periwinkle if that makes sense. I considered taking it back but for what I paid for it I might as well just use it for the backing.... but then maybe I should just not risk it and take it back the next time I go in. I would be horrified if it wasn't done doing its thing.... I didn't have enough time today to go through the customer service lines even if I had decided to return it while I was there. I'm sure I'll be back over there in the next week... I'll return it and get a purple calico or something to use for the backing. I did find some great material at Hobby Lobby when I went out so I'll be washing that today and adding that to the fabric lineup...
I will honestly say that I have never ever seen fabric bleed like that before though. It was just horrifying. I had it in the sink with warm water running over it and all you had to do was squish it and red ran freely. Hmmm. Maybe I will just take it back. I suppose it is better to be safe than sorry....

I can remember maybe three or four fabrics that did that for me.
They were not batiks.
One was a blue - I had ten yards of it to begin with - and it had shrunk to about nine yards when I returned it. The store people were not particularly pleasant about it.
One was a turquoise - it wasn't quite "done" when I decided to use it, but the front was dark enough so it wouldn't afflict it.
