ironing board cover

I learned something new watching the sewing show marathon yesterday on PBS. Use the same type of fabric on a pressing ham as the fabric you want to press... this made me think of using only cottons on pressing boards and ironing covers, too. It does make sense to have the pressing surface breath the same as the fabric you are pressing.

I just covered my big board with duct cloth and I love it. when it gets to brown or scorched I just put on another. I have two pieces on now but when I need to replace I will take off the one that is on now. I don't want it to be to soft. After I stretch and staple I turn it over on the right side and spritz with water and it shrinks up nice and tight. Learned that trick from a guild member/

After I made my big board to cover the regular ironing board, I layered batting (1) then covered it with a cotton canvas drop cloth I got at Lowes for about $6. I did the same by stretching, stapling, then turning it over and spritzing with water to tighten the weave. I've had it on there since October and there has been no stretching. I wipe it down with a wet cloth or roller to get any strings off. I love it and it's not scorching as easily as the cotton or regular ironing board cover.

Great. I have one of the old lint brushes that had the swivel head you brush it one way to pick and brush it backwards to take of the lint on the brush. I hadn't used it for years, found it in a drawer tried it it works super.
