Do you think it would be worth it to join the Alex Anderson and Ricki Timms quilt site? I would like to do the new Sue Garman BOM but hate to spend the money to join just to get the pattern

Its $25 for six months. I joined long ago and really enjoy the whole site. They have guests on the show and they are the really big names in quilting. The guests ususally give a show of their quilts and a demo of their quilting process.

I think it is 42 something a year. I just would like to have the ruffled roses boom quilt pattern. I guess you could look at it as the cost of the pattern. Some patterns with so much detail do cost that much and more. I just really don't need to spend the money. I have so many ufo's. But LOVE appliqué !

I was given a membership and love it. A new show every two weeks and teaching videos for members very often. I just finished watching a series of about 9 videos for longarmers with Linda Taylor that have great advice even for a domestic machine quilter. From time to time all the videos are available for free and if you wish you can purchase individual shows for under $3.00. The shows are nearly an hour long and are very informative. Sometimes the guests don't give you all the details about the technique they are showing because their main purpose is to get you into the store to buy the book, but there are many guests that give you all they have and don't push a book. They also have a gallery of quilts where you can get tons of inspiration and a very boring forum. I think there are too many sub forums and it gets too complicated. You can go in and watch a couple of free shows to help you decide.

I am thinking about joining when I have the extra $. Right now I have membership to Quilters club of America which includes QNNTV. Have learned many things overall but shows are a few years old and not to offend anyone but the Quilt out loud show really gets on my nerves. It has good info but Mark L & Jodie D try WAY too hard to be funny. I really like the more "let's teach and inform" approach of Alex A & Ricky T. They are enjoyable to watch and they really teach. That's just my opinion.

i had the pleasure of meeting Alex Anderson in person at the Houston Quilt Show.

she is as open, friendly, and fun to talk to as she seems to be in her shows. although i firmly believe she earns every penny in her commercial endeavors, i believe that she does what she does out of a sincere love of quilting and the joy of helping other quilters. she considers our "friendships" with her an honor.

i always loved the Simply Quilts show, so i'm sure you'll enjoy her website offerings, too.

the coolest thing? she already knew about our board when i told her about us. we are famous among the famous.

I have been a member for a year and a half...my membership is coming up in Jan and I think i will renew, also because of the BOM..I just browsed through (and downloaded) Month 1 of 2011 BOM Ruffled Roses and it really is beautiful...I love, love, love Sue Garman and her instructions are fantastic....
I joined in July 2009 but I downloaded all the patterns for the BOM that year called Stars for a New Day...I didn't start it that year but I did start it in 2010 and have quite a bit done..and it is quite the quilt..paper piecing, regular piecing or a choice..and I am learning a lot..Sue even produced a monthly mini video with tips for the month...then in 2010 Sue had 2 BOM...one was pieced Star Crazy and the other Applique called Hugs and Kisses..I almost have Hugs finished..working on the border right now..a little behind... and I am really happy with my progress..it is $42+ but I see it like a yearly subscription to a mag...although I will say that the last 6 months it was underused...and especially since I found this site..but just for those patterns it is worth it...Stars for a New Day is about $80ish on the website store, if I am not mistaken..

Thanks so much for all your opinions and taking the time to write them. I love this Board!!! And people like you all make it happen. I think I will give it a shot...mainly to get the pattern. I am assuming you will have to sign up for the year to get all the patterns for the 12 months? Or can you sign up for 6 mos. and download the pattern. I will check it out. But like one of you mentioned you have to think of it as the cost of a year's subscription to a magazine in combination to the much lesser price of the pattern that I would like to get!
