Default Backing for a flannel quilt

Just finished my first flannel quilt top and I'm having trouble finding a flannel backing of the same quality that I can afford. Would it be strange or ill-advised to back a flannel quilt with regular quilting cotton? I'd really rather use flannel. My plan is to donate this to Quilts of Valor.

While I'm on the topic, I plan to quilt this myself on my domestic machine. Any pointers for doing free motion on flannel? Thanks everyone!

there are lots of online quilt/fabric shops that carry wide flannel for backings.
fabric.com is one-
widebackings.com is another....there are lots more....just do a search for wide flannel.
you can certainly use regular cottons on the back of your flannel quilt if you choose- but flannels are available.
visit the fabshophop- and look through their list of shops (between 130 & 180 of them- you will find lots of resources for great flannels- and everything else. they also have a fabric search link to help you narrow your search.
flannel sheets can be used-but usually start pilling fairly quickly
i love the benartex flannels - and the moda woolies flannels are wonderful too

I just finished a quilt that the top is flannel and the back isn't. Works for me!

Since we often use a flannel back on a quilt that has a cotton top, I see no reason why the reverse wouldn't work.

Using cotton for the backing will work. I had a wounded warrior tell me that he loves flannel, but would rather have one side that was "cool" like a pillow when you turn it over...just a different perspective. THANK YOU for supporting our troops through QOV.

Thanks everyone for your replies. And thanks, KimS for the link. Hadn't seen that site before. Cost has been my main concern. Actually, I had ordered a wide flannel back from fabric.com when they were on sale and about three days after placing my order they notified me that it was no longer available. That has happened several time lately. I understand that they run out, just wish I'd had prompt notification. I may go the regular cotton route, but I did see some pretty nice flannel at Wally World yesterday. Have to say, I'm pretty impressed with our Wally World's fabric section.
