Hey all! What type/kind/size do you use for your table toppers and table runners? I just got done quilting a 24 by 24 inch table topper and am wondering what binding to use. Thanks in advance! :)

I just finished a wall hanging and have 2 to go. I used and will use 1" double fold binding (2" folded in half). I cut straight strips of the fabric (matched backing), attached strips at 45 angle until the length I needed, folded in half, machine stitched to the front, hand stitched to the back. Hope this helps and can't wait to see pictures.

I am similar to ladybugquilter, but use 2.5" strips of the fabric.

MaineGirl 76...

I do the same as ladybugquilter except I usually cut my strips 2 1/2" wide.

It is still a 1/4" binding on the top of the runner but there is more of a binding on the underneath side. I find it easier to hand sew and doesn't cramp my hands trying to hold the smaller amount.

Just a thought...

HI mumtoliam.......

do you find that the 2 1/2" gives you more ease when sewing the back of the quilt, runner or whatever. To me, the wider binding on the back really doesn't make much difference and anything to make a job easier, I am all for it.......lololol

If I use 2 1/2" binding, I use a 3/8" seam rather than 1/4". I like the binding to just cover the seam on the back.

Thanks everyone! I make my own binding for my quilts and I just wanted to know what others did for the binding on table toppers. I wanted the easy way out so I bought packaged binding from the store, and ugh what a pain that was! I ended up ripping it all off and making my own in the end! I should have just done that to start! Live and learn, right!? :)

I bought the bias strip machine and I have yards of binding made from my scraps for small projects. I'm waiting for the 2 1/2" tip to be available to buy for it. I like that size for quilt binding. Before the machine, I usually turned my tabletoppers, placemats, and potholders and then stitched a top seam for the binding look.

How do you like the machine - is it worth the money?
