Bernina newer models
Hi, I have been having problems with my Bernina B 570. The dealer has offered to accept a trade in for a new 590 with additional dollars of course. I am so confused. It seems like I can not find a lot of reviews on this model. The new machines came out in 2018 and there was some issues with them similar to what was happening with my 570. Updates to the firmware were made in May of 2020. The reviews I can find either give the models a low rating or a very high one. anyone know anything about the problems that were occurring or if those have been resolved with the new firmware updates. I am packing up my my 570 today and hopefully will trade her in tomorrow. But I am so confused. The dealer is denying that they have had other issues with the 570 and 590's they have sold. I do like the features on these machines, but want one that works. thanks

Totally agree on this!
You already have questions about your dealer.
It's a long relationship, and you should feel good about it.
Either wait til your mind feels clearer about all this, or head somewhere else for a second opinion before you do anything further with this dealer. Not saying you won't go back to him/her ... but important to be in a better space before you take permanent action.

Several guild members bought the Bernina newer models and have been very disappointed. They all say they are not like the older model Bernina in terms of quality just more features. They can tell by how they sew compared to the older ones they have.

A bad dealer makes it feel like you are doing something wrong and you are the only one having problems. I was wanting a large Juki sit down machine and in fact had the money ready but thought, no, I'll see how they fix my 2010q. My dealer was so bad, I had to pick it up 3 times before it was fixed, I know I'll never buy another Juki. And I LOVE my Juki.

I have an older Juki and I won't let anyone touch it except a Juki tech. One comes to the dealer here several times a year. The repairman for the dealer thinks he knows everything about every machine and he messed up my Juki. He even had the wrong bobbin in it telling me I had the wrong bobbin. Tech set him right. The wrong bobbin for a Juki is bad news.

I have a Bernina 590, and absolutely LOVE it! I also work at a Bernina dealer. The problem I see with the newer machines is that you absolutely have to hold the top thread tail when you start. That's not a problem for me because I've been in that habit since Jr. High. If you can do that, it will take care of a lot of problems. Like thread getting caught in the hook toggles or thread cutter.

That is good information but why don't the techs, repairman, or dealer make a point of saying do that? Is that info in the manual as do that every time? You would think that is a detail that should be told to any machine buyer if it was that crucial. I was taught to hold the thread tail too and many of the newer sewers look at me as being sewing police if I suggest it.

I have never had a new sewing machine, always bought used and I still have my Bernina 1090 that I bought used in the early 90's. I didn't even know that you didn't have to hold the thread tails on new machines (I just make sure they are long enough and that works). I have no desire for a new machine, I just want to sit down and start sewing, not push a computer screen 10 times to select this and that before I can even sew. Not to mention the price of repairs when the computer messes up. I love my old Bernina.
