Default Bernina software issues.

I just brought my new Bernina 740 into the shop for the second time for what is clearly software issues. At what point do I just tell them I think they sold me a bad machine.

First time the default needle position was all of a sudden way over to one side.

This time the tension is off from where it should be. These have a default setting according to which foot you are using. And they are suppose to be perfect. It was. Then it wasn't. What made me really start to check things like this was when it spontaneously started sewing backwards.

Well what do you think?

What did your dealer and service tech have to say the first time?
And now the second time?

The Bernina store here the repair guy only comes in once a week or so. So I'm waiting for it to be looked at again. I was told it was a software issue again today when I dropped it off. I asked my question about it possibly just being a lemon and the woman behind the counter didn't seem to know to answer the question. It is under warranty, but I don't want a machine that I keep having to bring in. She did say it was unusual for something this new to be brought back in twice.

Aside from software issues, do you by any chance have lots of power outage?
Do you plug your machine in surge protector? Those electronic machines
can be very sensitive to power fluctuations. Just a thought.

The more I think about it the more I'm leaning toward this, but I just want to know if I'm right. It is the purchase of a life time and meant to be the last machine I would ever buy. I'm thinking I will call the store owner tomorrow. Thanks.

No power outage. When I bought the machine I was warned about that so I unplug my machine when I turn it off.

I don't know the law where you are, but here if you take a car in 3 times in a certain amount of time, you can file under the "lemon law". That might be something to look into and mention if the machine isn't fixed. Although it's a sewing machine and not a car, it's a very expensive machine and you shouldn't be having this much trouble with it. I've had 2 Berninas and other than regular servicing and a few basic things, I've never had trouble with either one. This last one I've owned for 20 years now.

STAND YOUR GROUND! I've owned three Berninas and one Burnette in the past 7-8 years. The Burnette was my first, and it went up in smoke (literally) the second or third time I used it. Fortunately the dealer was embarrassed and gave me a decent (I think) deal on my first Bernina. While it has its limitations, this machine is still my primary.

When my husband and I bought a second home a few years later, I bought a used Bernina off Craig's List. It never did sew well. After taking it to my local Bernina dealer for the second time in ~6 months, he confessed that this model had never performed very well. So I traded it (+ $) for another model. While we don't spend nearly as much time in this second home as we'd imagined, the machine is sewing well for me.

Bernina's are very pricey, and they're supposed to be the best. But sometimes they aren't! For the sake of us all, please complain and demand that your machine deliver the quality you paid for!!!

Update. After the machine being in the shop for a week I get a call that it has been fixed. They claimed nothing was really wrong other than it needing software updates. When I pick it up I ask to try it before I leave the store. The BSR I left with it in the shop still wasn't working correctly. It was what I originally thought the problem was in the first place. The thing that really bothers me is that they wouldn't admit it. In the end they gave me a new one claiming they were doing so only to make me happy. BS.. I have to honestly say that I love this machine, but I think the Bernina people are really snooty. I thought so when I took the classes too.
