Default Fabric Store in Minneapolis Mn

I heard there is a fabric store in Minneapolis that has tons and tons of fabric that you can cut yourself. Does anyone know what the name of the store is? How are are prices, selection and quality? Might take a 6 hr road trip someday to check it out.

Nancy, a couple of years ago my hubby and I took a junket up to the cities and made the rounds of the mill end textile outlets (5, if I remember correctly) and his motorcycle shops. What fun! He never made any objection to my shopping and I shopped a lot that weekend!! LOL. I still get their coupons in my email.

It's S.R. Harris fabric warehouse. The bargains were fabulous, but after the original owner sold it the bargains aren't as good. When you cut your fabric, you write the yardage and price/yd on a sticker that you place on the fabric. At checkout, they ring you up at 50% of the price that was on the bolt. I used to be able to get Timeless Treasure batiks for $5/yd there, but these days the bolt price is marked $14 so it tends to be $7. They sometimes have wide backing fabrics. Always check the coupons on their website before going, as the batik prices are better when they offer an extra-off coupon for batiks. I just haven't seen any for quite awhile.

It really is a warehouse, and they have every type of fabric you could ever imagine there -- not just cottons for quilting.

Good think I didn't know about that one, S R Harris! I'd really made a hole in our pocket. We're headed that way this summer for a wedding, my sisters and I. We will make sure and put that one on our list.

I *just* today got an email from S.R. Harris that they will take an additional 20% off all 45" cotton prints and batiks through Jan 31, but you must bring the email coupon with you. I had signed up for their email notices a long time ago, but never got one until just now! FINALLY a sale on batiks!!! I would advise everyone to sign up for their email list, as they said these special sales will be for email list members only.

This email said they have expanded their cottons and now have over 300,000 yards of it.

I just sent 'Cagey' a PM. if you want a copy of the email too, send me your email address via a PM and I will forward the email with coupon on to you. their website is : http://www.srharrisfabric.com/index.html
The EXTRA 20% is only good till Jan. 31. It is a fun, awesome, dangerous (easy to "save" money!!) place. Plan for at least a few hours. A quilters/sewers dream; can be overwhelming but oh, so fun:-0
