Default Best settings on Janome for fleece?

I'm working on getting a feel for my new Janome 6600 and I haven't had the opportunity to take a new user's class yet - probably won't be able to until July. I have a question for the knowledge base of Quiltingboard!

One of the things I'm trying to do with it is sew through a thick layer consisting of two layers of fleece and two layers of flannel. Just a straight stitch, but I seem to be having problems and I know it's because I haven't discovered the right settings yet.

What stitch/tension/foot would you use for this? I'm using a 40wt Aurifil thread for this particular job and I believe a standard 80 needle.

I would definitely switch to the AcuFeed Foot and engage the walking foot for thick stuff, I would also test out on scraps and start with a tension of 2-3.
