I have a great idea how to cut it but I'm not saying until you tell us what you are making with the strips of batting.

Good One ... hold your idea for ransom!
Though I have a feeling that all of our curiosities are not going to be fulfilled.

lol.... I've been following thread and this had me giggling. I don't think we'll get an answer so I think we should just guess.

My guess: 1 1/8" strips to be used for: she's building a suspension bridge.

I can't find my pattern, but she may be making something that uses 2 1/2" strips where you lay the batting in the centre and zig zag it shut. Then you zig zag the already quilted strips together to make a mat or a table runner.
Did I make it yet? Well I sewed two strips together to check it out and the whole thing is somewhere......

I think she is insulating pipes with overlaping wraps. Several years ago some of us participated in constructing fleece faucet socks for the 4-H camp to prevent outdoor plumbing from freezing. I thought it was stupid until I did an internet search and found that such things did exist and do work.
