what a fun quilt to make! you did such a good job on it. I think I'll try one like that-thanks for the inspiration!! I think that when I'm done I'll trim the edges straight and bind. Post a pix when you're done with it-I'd love to see the finished product.

I like K3n`s suggestion of adding another row of 1/2 hexagons so you have a straight edge to bind to. A lot less work then trying to bind around each hexagon plus has the advantage of still maintaining the hexagon shape.
I did this on the interior part of a baby quilt I made so the quilt would end up in a rectangular shape.

I was just on You Tube and watched the video link that crkathleen recommended. What a great way to finish this quilt and Marcie Baker's instructions were so easy to follow. With this technique you will not have to miter every corner. Definitely worth watching.

This is a little late but I'll tell you how I did my 46"=x49" hexagon quilt (each hexagon 1 1/4" across parallel lines)
Quilt the piece first. The make a ring of hexagons indentical in size to the ourter ring of the quilt top ( or mirror image if the sides are irregular)
then match it on the back and turn under the edges and whip stitch them closed witi tiny stitches -joining the outer edges and then stitch the inner edge to the quilt top.
As, I said I did this on my quilt and it was accepted at the International Quilt Festival last year.
I've tried to attach a photo of it but I apologize cause I've no idea if I succeeded. j
