I do most of my bindings by machine. Often I use a decorative stitch for an added design element. I have done this for years and the children's quilts (while heavily used, abused, drug around and many times washed) have never had a problem with binding coming loose.

Maybe - but I would like to see samples of their work first.

Yes, I have paid someone to bind my quilts. Make sure their stitching is good enough for you. I had a quilt with scalloped borders I planned to enter in a quilt show. I paid a quilter that offers this service to bind it for me. I did not like it and the person redid it. Not good enough. I removed all her stitches and did it myself. :-). Nice job! Haha

I don’t like to do the binding because I have carpal tunnel and my fingers go numb after a few stitches. Makes the binding process a real struggle for me.

Now I have a lady that I trade binding for quilting. She does a pretty good job, but if I am planning to enter the quilt in a quilt show, I do it myself. That way, there is no one to blame if I dont get good comments on the binding. :-). :-)

No. I machine sew my binding on and they look very nice. I enjoy all of the quilt making process.

Call me crazy, but hand binding my quilts is my favorite part of the entire process.

No, actually, I prefer to do my own binding -- I'm fairly good at it, and I'm not satisfied unless I do the absolute best of which I am capable.

I guess I am crazy too! I like doing the binding by hand and I am confident no one could do it to suit me.

In a skinny minute! If I had the financial resources, I'd also hire out the sandwiching and quilting. But that said, I love a handmade quilt with uneven stitches, thread that has bunched in places and wonky blocks! The love of the maker shines through all the imperfections I find in my work and the receiver never seems to notice!

I love doing binding on my quilts. It means you are on the "down hill run!" and almost finished. It is a sit down job and I don't get to sit down much so I feel accomplishment when I am sitting and sewing binding.
