Are there rules? Yikes, hope I don't get caught, I bet I have broken all of them. Your main rule should always be "My quilt, my rules". If you like it, it is perfect.

no show rules on bnding other than straight and even and well applied and good corners. This is a quilt judge speaking.

I didn't think there were any quilting rules. You can do whatever you want. I would leave it on especially if it looks good that way.

The "Quilt Police" retired a while ago. As long as you like it and it's neat and even, leave it as it is!!

I usually cut my bindings at 2 1/4 for regular cotton fabric and 2 1/2 for flannel to help with the thickness of the fabric. Binding can be cut at any width. I measure the quilt and figure out how many strips I will need and then cut the binding fabric accordingly. I can fudge on my binding if i have to.
