Default Border debating

This is a 60x60 inch rag quilt pre- washing. One layer of flannel used as the middle layer. I don’t know what to expect for shrinkage after it’s washed so debating about adding black borders to increase size.
What would you do? Thanks

Ooooh, this is gorgeous! I can see adding a nice solid black border, just to 'finalize' the edge...

I think a black border would look great---it would pick up on the black sashings you have scattered in there.

Beautiful and fun colors! I like the idea of a black border too. Is the rag fabric going to leave lint on it though?

If you prewashed the flannel, I wouldn't expect there to be much more shrinkage. I sew an x through each block to help stabilize a rag quilt. If you want to add a black border, it would be pretty with your blocks. To me, part of the fun of a rag quilt is to not have to use borders and bindings. A more casual look.

each batik block has a quilted Hawaiian design in the center using my embroidery hoop. Unfortunately I did not pre wash the flannel as I wanted it to rag. I prewashed once when making a rag quilt and it didn’t rag as nice as I would have liked it. So no pre washing

I don't think it needs a border. Black binding would look really nice.

My husband is gripe-ing right now about the little rag quilt I made for the “grands” to play on....he’s vacuuming..... :-)

He also made a rag quilt for the bed (Q) and I had to add two rows to make it wider. Just a thought when using flannel. Also, what about a grey border or one of the darker colored fabrics....black will be very stark.

Question: are you going to clip those seams before washing? I think I would like the rag look more on the pieced side rather than the backside, but that's just my personal like........
