Is there a gold thread that is as soft and strong as regular thread for FMQ? My experience with gold thread is from the 90s. It was a little stiff and broke way too often. The quilt I'm working on doesn't tell me any color that will work for FMQ it - usually, I like variegated, but it says, "No". I wonder about a gold colored poly embroidery thread. The quilt is black prints, red, turquoise, soft gold. yellow, agua, etc.

I went to the Superior Threads site and they have a gold variegated that looks interesting. For $11.50, it should. I will check my LQS Monday.

I use superior metallic thread on my sweet 16 with little to no trouble. It runs really well. Glide also has a nonmetallic gold color that is very pretty.

I like to use a Glide (or Magnifico or Fantastico if buying Superior) in a bright gold color--gives your quilting some shine without actually using a metallic.

I suspect you mean metallic thread? May I suggest auditioning a "regular" gold poly or cotton thread?

You sure can. It's ready for appliqueing so I am going to check my thread supply before going to the store. I know I have a gold poly machine embroidery thread and probably have gold poly or cotton.

I have happily used the "right color" regular thread. I save metallics for hand work.

I found a poly variegated in my stash that may work for the quilting, but I'm not comfortable using it to applique the fan to the background. I may try treating like a giant Drunkard's Path block. If I can do a 9 inch one, I can do a 40 inch one. Right?
