Hi All - I'm new to this blog. It seems like we all can be very helpful to each other, as well as being good on-line friends.

I need a little help. My son is getting married in a year or so, and, of course, I want to make him and his fiance a very special quilt. I made my daughter a double wedding ring star, which turned out simply gorgeous. I'm thinking of making Matt the Boston Lone Star, which turns out to be a combination of a Boston Common block and Lone Star. My problem? How do I (a) find a pattern for a king size? or (b) develop my own pattern? And, then, how do I determine how much fabric? I'm one to find a pattern and follow directions, but this one looks so very, very special, I just have to make it. Any advise or help?

Hi and welcome to the board from Iowa. I have made a lone star, but not a boston lone star and mine was a queen. I am sure someone will come along here who has made what you are asking about (smile). Welcome.

the large lonestar pattern makes a 54" star---which looks quite nice in the center of a bed...then bordered- with a plain-star-plain border to get it up to the size of the bed would be the way i would go about it.
there are some absolutely beautiful lonestar quilts out there===start...browsing---you will get so inspired!!!

i usually start with graph paper with a frame of the size i want the finished quilt---had to learn to do this so i quit making 14 foot long quilts---i had a problem stopping for awhile---had to learn how to make them stop growing :)

I'm really pretty set on the Boston Commons/ Lone Star idea. My bed area is 80" x 80", including maybe a 2"-3" border before the drop.
