What causes birds nests? Was sewing just fine the jumble of thread under neath! Now nothing! No lint underneath rethreaded. I'm stumped. I appreciate all the help, suggestions and comments. I've only been quilting a few yrs, self taught starting with a book from 1960's and visually impaired, so can use whatever help I can! Thank you!!!

Now what do you think causes a birds nest? Silly girl...its caused by a bird or birds collecting threads and twigs and things to make a nest so that they can hatch out some eggs!!!

OOPS....WRONG nesting. LOLOLOL I had to see if you were paying attention. So ARE YOU? lolol

The first thing I would do is clean the bobbin area really well, then rethread, also change the needle just in case.

On some of my machines, I have to hold the threads to start sewing or I'll get bird's nests. Make sure there is not a small thread caught somewhere in the bobbin race. Or than that, just cleaning it out might help.

Try pulling your bobbin out of the case - brushing out anything that may or may not be there.
Then re-install, making sure the thread is in the right direction.
Replace the needle and re-thread, making sure its in the right direction.
When starting out stitching, hold the "tails" for the first few stitches.

If that doesn't work, try a new bobbin.
Sometimes machines just get plain ol' persnickety.

P.S. This has happened to all of us at one time or another.
Okay.. at least it's happened to me!
