Default Is 600.00 a lot to pay for a "Singer Original 221 Featherweight" ?

I've wanted a featherweight for a while, but I don't know the prices for them, and saw this ad today.

"Original 221 featherweight complete with case, all attachments & book. Completely serviced."

The asking price is $600.00, and I was wondering if that is a decent price.

Here is a picture of it.

It depends on how badly you want it. It looks to be in very good condition. The ad implies that it works. Can you ask the seller for a guarantee? I've been following Featherweights on eBay, and they seem to average $275-325. I got lucky and got mine for $155 - it works great, but the surface shows more wear than the one in your picture.

It is about $300-$400 over priced in my opinion.

Don't know for your area - but it does seem high to me. To me anything over $350.00 is high. You can pay less and then have it serviced.

Have 2 and paid no more than $260 for the highest one. High, if you ask me.

I bought a beautiful little FW a few months ago for 205. My husband came in when I was looking at it and said "BID!" so I got it! It has hardly any wear on it..I cleaned and oiled her up and she sews a fine seam! I Use her everyday! I bid on a 401a just before I bid on FW and got it too. took quite a lot of cleaning, oiling and work to get the 401 sewing but now she is humming along and both are a joy to work on. I think I paid $89. for the 401a.
I am doing some thread painting with the 401a and lots and lots of sewing quilt blocks on my FW!
ebay has auctions that show $150- 600+ hope you get a nice one!

I think $600 is quite high I paid $75 -$100 for mine and its in good condition. I see them listed on Craigslist and EBay for $175 to $300

$300 is average in my area. For $600 I would expect a perfectly pristine machine complete with pristine box and accessories *and* the featherweight table. I don't know about Canada.....

I paid $475 for mine in Oregon mine is an original like new with everything including case and keys also was professional service bought it from a sewing machine shop who had bought out a fellow retired sewing machine repair person who collected them and decided to sell his collection. Most like what you have pictured are close to the price I paid. Do not know anyone who has paid over $500. So six seems a little high too me.

Yes, that seems too high. Don't remember exactly what I paid for mine but I'd keep searching if I were you.
