Default Brother vs. Singer

Hi, QB friends, there have been many threads about midrange machines which I have reviewed, so I hope I am not asking a duplicate question. I want a mid range (about $500) machine and will likely get either a Singer Quantum Stylist or a Brother PRW 420. My question for any of you that have either machine- what is the harp space? I can't find either machine in my local area to see for myself, and the online dealer won't answer an email. Thank you in advance to anyone who can provide this information.

If I had to express my opinion on brand only....I would go with the Brother hands down.

ditto

I have a singer stylist from the 70's and I know they don't make them the same (this one is metal and super sturdy) but the harp on this one is 7" I don't know if that helps at all

I just bought a http://content.janome.com/index.cfm/...uilting/DC5100 . Love the features and all the feet that come with it. You might want to check it out, too.

Number one, if I couldn't get an answer from a dealer, that one would be a big NO for me!!

I would go with brother, that model is very popular and gets awesome reviews and on one of my yahoo groups someone brought a similar model from a dealer way more expensive, bought the 420 off amazon, felt it was better than the higher end dealer model, and returned hers to the dealer in favor of the 420. IF that was my budget, thats the one I would get hands down. Haven't seen reviews on the singer so don't know how it compares but I am sure someone here has had experience with both brands can chime in

Brother for me, too. I own both brands in computerized machines and although I like my Singer 160th Anniversary I love my Brother ci6000! I also own Brother SE270D and 700II embroidery machines.

I like Singer in my vintage machines.

I have the Brother pc-420. Absolutely love this machine, it has done everything I have ever asked it to do. The harp space is 7 inches. Bought the machine new off of ebay. Found both the manual and the machine to be very user friendly, very easy to figure out how to use all the features. After having the machine for about 6 months, I ordered the extension table to go with it for $50...makes quilting that much easier.

Thanks to all! I was already leaning toward the Brother, and you have helped me make my decision.
