I have a job offer to run the fabric dept at the local HL and am wondering if there is anyone out there who could tell me what hourly wage should I ask for? I need to call them in an hour...

Ask for what you think you're worth with your experience in management and fabric. Most often we under sell ourselves. However, if just getting the job is the most important thing (a sad but common theme these days) then ask for what will make your time worth it.

I would go around 13/ hour. . and I think that a management position would get paid more. but that is me. If I remember right hl checkers are around 11/hour to start with well that is here in the KC area of Missouri.

I use to work in Fabrics at our local H.L. store...they only paid a little over minimum wage when I worked there - I only worked there for the fabric discount!

They didn't pay the managers very much either.

I really enjoyed the job because it a 2nd job and it was something I enjoyed. I always got great fabric discounts and found out what was going to be on sale before the public knew...so I could cut my stash out and have it ready for purchase once the sale began.

We use to get fabric for as much as 90% off at time...I think they discontinued that after I left.

Thanks everyone for your reply! I really don't need the money but have always wanted to work or own a quilt shop I went ahead and took the job running the fabric department for paltry pay but I get a discount on anything in the store. It will be helpful to get fabric cheaper since the price is going sky high.

That's the same thing I did...I worked there for about 3 years and actually learned lots about other types of fabric, lace, and home decor fabric which I had no prior knowledge about. Have fun!
