That is really adorable. I think I too would either call the niece directly or her mother to find out about the shower.

That's right... the mother of the baby may not know you weren't invited or even been asked who she wanted to invite. If you made the gift in love, then I would give it to the mother regardless. Sometimes a private gift opening is much more special than the "show" a shower can become.

Sometimes I'm happy not going to a shower. They can be so tedious and you get tempted to eat a TON of sugar. Ha, ha.
