I have said more than once on this forum, "It is the excellent Bernina customer service that keeps me a Bernina lover," and now I have one more example. I have a Bernina 440QE with embroidery. I have used it many times. However, my laptop that I was using for it died, and I needed to put the software on my new laptop, my Bernina dealer said he would help me. Long story short, after two days, and two sewing techs working on it, they were able to get it to run. They said it was my Norton software, not liking the software and the machine. He did not charge me anything. After a few days at home, my new laptop quit picking up the wireless signal. Short version of the story- after two hours on the phone with the HP tech, we recovered the computer before the software installation, and it is now just fine. So chapter three of my saga, I will have to find an older laptop, with a older operating system that is dedicated just for my sewing machine, and I will have to call my Bernina dealer, with the bad news, as I will need his help again. Has anyone else had this same problem?

I recently tried to load my embroidery software on my laptop but my laptop is running Windows 7 and won't read my embroidery software because it's approx. 5 years old. Too expensive to buy new software, so I downloaded Bernina's free embroidery software: Artlink. Also have The Cut Work Tool and it's software works on my laptop and you can embroidery with it. Most of my embroidery work is done through my old desktop computer which is still working well.

I know that when I tried to install the software for the magic box it would install on Win 7 but wouldn't run. I was lucky because I had loaned my son my old (about 10yrs) laptop and he had just gotten a new one. I had to buy a new battery and a new powercord but it worked fine. I no longer need it for that but don't want to get rid of it just in case I have the same problem in the future. I now have the Viking Ruby and it has no problem with Win 7. Even though Win 7 says you can run some of the older programs on it using the special settings for older versions of operating systems; I've never been able to get them to work. I never had a problem with XP getting it to use those features. I'm surprised that it crashed your pc like that; mine just wouldn't run it; no error messages or nothing. Why do you need the dealer to install your software; I've installed mine a on two different laptops without any problems. Plus I installed the orginal 5D organizer that came with my Ruby before I got the 5D pro. Good luck on your venture. You should be able to still find some pcs out there running XP.

i've run into the same issues with some of my favorite software [emb, knitting, home designing] software that does not like windows 7. i was lucky enough to find a win xP before they stopped selling them. i've also found things about norton that cause me problems. i only installed it recently as it's free with my internet service. i ran Webroot before that until the free period ran out. i'm thinking i may just pay for Webroot again.

Yes, My older PC also died, Bernina's do no like the new windows operating systems. Was told to just down load new drivers from their site, but they dont work. After too many hours trying to get to work, I gave up. Just use my Bernina now for quilting.

What software are you using?
I have a laptop with Windows 7 and V5 software and they work together just fine. Make sure you check the Bernina support site and download appropriate drivers if necessary.

I work in the IT field and I tell you; I've never had good luck with Norton. It slows down your pc and if you aren't enrolled in it then they are always finding issues. When I get a new pc the first thing I do is uninstall everything Norton has to on it. Microsoft does have Windows Essentials; it's a free program (like Norton) and it works very well. I have a friend who builds pc and plus lots more and it's the only thing he'll use. It's also very easy to download as well.

Norton is the cause of a lot of computer problems. Computer repairmen love Norton. Easy to fix and cha ching! If you have two anti virus programs installed you will certainly have problems. The anti virus programs fight each other. I have used AVG anti virus for many years and I have never had a computer virus on any home computer I have had. The free email programs like Gmail, won't let a virus through. Most internet providers email allow junk mail and virus emails download to your inbox. It's up to you to not open them. I haven't had spam since I stopped using internet and Windows email.
