Can someone tell me how many fat quarters you need to make a lap or twin quilt?. Also how many charms or jelly rolls. I just need a ball park figure since I don't know what to buy when I find a sale.

It is going to depend on the pattern you choose. If you are doing a lot of small pieces? you will need more fabrics.
We were discussing this on an earlier thread, it is almost easier to find a pattern(s) using these, and buy on sale for the pattern itself :D:D:D

Personally I think you are better to buy yardage.

Having bought several pre-cuts I highly recommend that you look for the pattern first.
Otherwise you are very likely to end up with the wrong cut for the right pattern. Ask me how I know. ;)

You have to think about the size of the quilt itself. A fifty by fifty quilt, that's two yards at least by two yards, maybe a yard and a half, and then the back will take another three or four yards. Depends on the pattern itself.

When I think about a quilt, I think about the size of the quilt first. In my mind's eye, I figure how many yards of fabric goes on a bed. It's usually more than I realize. Sometimes, I'm surprised. But not often.
