Default Can I use hanging corners for 36-inch quilt?

I'm making a 36-inch square lap quilt to give to a friend. She may prefer to hang it on a wall but it's a surprise, so I don't want to ask her. Can I use the pocket corner method and add triangles to the two top corners? (Such as described here http://www.alzquilts.org/sleeve.html ). Or will the size of the quilt preclude doing it this way (cause it to sag in the middle, for example). If I do it the way the website suggests, I should use 12-inch squares folded on the diagonal. Those would be big triangles!

I sure wouldn't use corners on a wall quilt that large! I think that's just asking for future problems with distortion and pulled threads. I'd go with a full width sleeve to support the weight and balance the stress all the way across the top. Sleeves are fast and easy to make and I put them on all my quilts 'just in case'.

Thanks for the question Marcia_PA and thanks for the link, ghostrider. I haven't yet made anything that could be hung but you never know. BrendaK

You can use triangle corners but I would also add a sleeve on either side or the center for the weight. If you just put a rod along the top under the 2 corner triangles, the quilt is going to sag in the center over the nail from the weight of the quilt.

That's what I thought. Thanks for all of the replies.

I would just do a sleeve. Keep gifts simple.
