"Applique, The basics and Beyond", is a great reference book with lots of pictures.

Here is a link to it at amazon. I ordered it from my local quilt store. But, the price here is much better.

Of the 5 books I hace, "The New Applique Sampler" -- Learn to applique the Piece O' Cake Way by Becky Goldsmith & Linda Jenkins is my favorite. Illustrations on almost every page (for righ & left-handed individuals). Good luck.

I've seen that book that RedGarnet is recommending. Looks like a great resource book to own.

For machine applique, I don't think you can beat Harriet Hargrave's book:

This applique class is being offered online for free right now.

You just have to subscribe to the site also free. They don't offer many free online classes and Alex is one of the best. Check it out.

I love Pat Andreata's books and patterns but not sure if they are still in print. She made me fall in love with applique. OH- I'm talking about hand-applique. For machine I would vote Harriet Hargrave, hands down!
