I'm so glad you showed it to your husband, the recipient, for his opinion. I wanted to surprise my husband with a quilt of his favorite things and had seen a "row" quilt that I thought would be just perfect for the material and appliques I'd picked out. He hated it. He loved the blocks, but he hated the row layout. I ended up "framing" the blocks with two layers of "logs" plus sashing. He showed that quilt to everyone who came in the house. It was worth the work to make it what he liked.

I agree about breaking it up. Sashings often rescue quilts.. It is not to my taste either, but before you discard your work, it might be wise to have your DH help you 'audition' sashings. Then you will have a much better idea of what he thinks of it.

I think what you have is so appropriate for the theme that any guy who loves Marvel comics enough to want them in a quilt will LOVE this busy quilt, no calming needed!

I'm probably way late...I think it's perfect. Have you ever read a comic book.....hard for me to follow because they are so busy. My boys who love comic books would be thrilled so will your husband. I would calm it down with the light blue as a border. I think it's fantastic and if he doesn't like it I have boys that I will not show this pic too because then I will get the request and I just can't say no to these monsters!

The sashing is a great change for any quilt. Also when it is quilted it will change again. Many quilts tops that are not liked, and the quilting change them. Love your work and so will the one you love.

Personally, I think it's a cool quilt with the collage look. Neat fabrics!!! I think your husband will love it. I definitely would frame it in red.

How about some flying geese like thunderbolts between the sections or around the edge? Perhaps the red on the blue? I think it's cute! But I wouldn't want to sleep under it either.

My, my, that is a busy quilt! Since your husband requested the quilt, I would ask his opinion of what he thinks about it, but I would frame he squares with a black or grey color, that way it won't be so busy and distracting

The sashing could mimic the breaking up of the frames in comic books. But, I have a feeling your honey might like it "as is".
I also have to add my two cents in agreement with Logofflater and Suze9395. My husband loves to read the comics and I find them irritating to read because they are so busy. He will love the quilt! I actually love the way the quilt is laid out as a collage and I love your quilt. Maybe you are discouraged just because it is not your usual choice for fabrics in a quilt. I certainly think you should complete the quilt for your husband and then your next one should be one totally done the way you like it, fabric, color, etc.!
