I remember that Sharon Newman said that red was a good color to use on scrappy quilts for sashing or cornerstones. In her books showing vintage scrappy quilts, she had examples using red, and they looked good.

I've used dark maroon on two of these....not so severe and worked really well.

Black and white polka dots would give your eyes a rest between colors. Learned this from Freddy Moran

what about a creamy yellow? I love the blocks. They are very pretty. You did good.

Your blocks are terrific. I just made my first string quilt and just loved the process. I have a ton of scraps like those in your blocks and didn't know what to do with them. Thanks to your post, I know what to do with them.

That was my first reaction as well. Red or yellow seems to be colors that would be great choices.

I agree with some of the others...I squint looking at the blocks and the red pops. Of course, I love red and that may "color" my opinion!!
