I am so sorry for you, I hope you get well soon. I was looking to buy the electric one but DH told me he could see me cutting off a finger as I am so accident pron. I thought about it awhile and he is right so I did not buy it.

Oh poor baby. I did the same but after four hours it quit bleeding. had to wear a metal finger guard for about a month due to the nerves being sensitive. I used my 8x24 inch ruler with a plastic guard on it-but somehow turned it and was using the side without the guard! my fault for not paying attention. but i'm much more careful now. those things are sharp!!!

Ouch! Welcome to the infamous club of "we all did it too".
Yesterday I was using salad tongs to maneuver the scrubber in a tall skinny vase. Did not expect the hinge end of the tongs to have a sharp edge . . . Bandaid on the end of my thumb for a couple of days now.

Ladies, do what I did. Get a Klutz glove, I believe it's called. Similar to what butchers wear. You can get them on-line at quilting supply sites.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'm grateful every day to someone (Bellaboo?) who posted on the board a while back about Rule Steady. Besides its safety factor, it's great at keeping your rulers from slipping.

It is so easy to forget safety. I hope that you do heal up OK.

I bought a Klutz glove after seeing a quilting instructor slice off a piece of her finger. I figure if an experienced instructor can make a mistake like that, I'd be in real trouble without some sort of protection. Love the glove...just need to remember to use it every time I have a rotary cutter in hand.

That was a good subject to bring up as we all can get careless at times I know I do .
I hope it is getting better.

I never use a rotary cutter without a safety guard of some kind. Not even to make one tiny little cut. My favorite and is the Quiltrers Slide Lock. It holds the ruler in place and no slipping and my hand is no where near the blade. I have all sizes. There are many safety tools to choose from. Please find the one you like and never cut without it.
