I returned yesterday from a Carol Doak trunkshow/lecture and workshop hosted by Threads of Time in Danville, Il. What a MAGNIFICENT time. The lecture was funny, she's a delightful speaker, the trunk show was beautiful, and the workshop was fun and informative. We made the "Sunrise" block from her "Mariner's Compass Stars" book. And YES, she does make paper piecing fun! The only down side was learning that she's retiring from the lecture circuit at the end of this year. So, if you have the chance to see her this year make every effort to do it. She has a wonderful personality, a heartfelt laugh that bubbles up often, and is a patient teacher. What a great time we all had. She spent the night in Threads and Beds with us and was just "one of the girls." I believe everyone of the people there (even experienced paper piecers) learned some new tricks and techniques and had fun. If she ever decides that she needs to get away from home for awhile and do another workshop I'd go again in a heartbeat. The whole experience, from meeting and learning from Carol, to the comfortable stay at Threads and Beds, to the delicious meals catered by Charlotte's was superb!

I don't know about that but she has a website and DVD's that you can purchase. I'm going to check out her website today.

She also has a yahoo group and you can get free patterns from her website.

I'm signed up for a class with her in August. So glad I'm able to meet her before she retires! Thanks for the info.

I love all my Carol Doak pp books n CDs. I'm so happy for you that you had such a fabulous time. Wish I were there, I've never had the chance to go to her workshops, sounds like you had a blast. I'm actually one of the paper piece lovers. I find it relaxing, there is a great website that has freebies on patterns I found it by typing in free paper piece patterns. Not sure the website, but there are a few. Well since it wasn't me at theblecture having fun, I'm glad it was a fellow quilting friend :)

Let's see, I did a 2 day quilting retreat, came home for 1 day, left on a 9 day vacation, came home for a little less than 2 days--did laundry, grocery shopping, went garage sale-ing, went to church then packed to go to the Carol Doak thingy, stayed overnight, came home, unpacked the car, went and had my oil changed. Now I need to unpack my overnight bag and my sewing, wash the 209 yards of fabric I bought a Marshalls, and when I get rested up I'll take some pix and post. It might be a while. *   I truly do need some rest. I just spent about an hour cutting all my Marshalls fabric into 3 yd sections so that it would be easier to wash.
