I'm curious about the purpose of this "survey" and what your plans for the results are, butterflywing. Since you brusquely refuse to read prior postings about this topic, it seems like you are not interested in what pets board members have and the phrasing of your study objective has little to do with what animals are owned by any of us anyway.

Just because I may own a particular species of animal, does not indicate I "relate" best to that species at all. And what I own now, due to circumstances, does not mean that it is what I would prefer were the circumstances different. It is not necessarily relative to a change in "taste", as you put it. And if you are counting worms, should you not also count the mice I shelter in my garage, or the wild turkeys I feed all winter? What about those who have no companion animals at the moment? I bet plenty of them "relate" fondly to some type of critter.

So, what exactly is the goal of this exercise?

i reason i didn't want to read the last pet post was that some animals were gone and some were added. i'm really just doing this out of curiosity, because so many quilters have chosen their pets as their avatars, indicating a special bonding. yes, some people love their pet worms and i have them listed in the 'survey'. barbsbus has 2000 worms.i also have a listing for 1 snake, 25 cattle, fish, a turtle and quiltykitty is claiming all the wild things of the world as being dear to her.

my intention was never to be serious. this was never meant to be a treatise on the subject of "quilters and their animal friends". i thought it would be fun and allow everyone to share their love of their animals with others who love their animals.

if you have taken it in any other way, i sincerely apologize.

by the way, yes, the turkeys you feed are certainly your pets. just because they don't live in your house doesn't matter. i also feed all the wild birds that come to my feeders and know some of them by name. they are surely my pets. you are certainly invited to share with us all anything you'd like to about your animal 'friends'. goats and horses don't live indoors indoors either. and shelter animals didn't cost any money. anything you care about and love is your pet. please let me know what your favorites are.

i have no plans for the results. should i have? what in the world would they be?

I have a Chihuahua named Tink she is 15 years old. She loves the one she is with at the time,My husband or myself. We also have a siamese mix named simmy,His brother mesey died in 2004. They were litter mates born in 1992. Which makes him 16 and still going strong. We have a 180 Gal. freshwater aquarium which we both love. Lot of fish.
I love all animals have been owned by many. But I have had 3 true animal friends That owned me and I miss all three as much as I would a real person that I loved. My Horse Dixie....She was a king bred working cow horse. I She was 16 years old when I had to put her down because of Liver failure. She was 15 1/2 hands high.
My Germanshep Tara..... She was the most gentlest big dog I have ever knew. Germanshep are suspose to be nervous. Not this dog, loved kids but was very protective of me.
My Standard Poodle Bella..... The most intelligent animal I have ever been owned by. Lost her to lyphnthomic Cancer. This past July 1 year ago She was 14. That Big soft curly head and ears, listen to me without a groan,or a comment just looked at me like she knew everything I was crying, venting or just talking about.
I will have to have another when Tink the Chihuahua finally leaves us. But dont know yet which I want. I prefer Dogs, Big ones but now that I am now longer a spring chicken, it will probably be a little one.
Tink is like our baby, We treat her so.

I have a newfoundland that thinks he is a lap dog - - UGH. His name is Duncan for Duncan McCleod (of Highlander fame). I have had 4 dogs and 2 cats in the past. Don't know if you want to count them:

Sammy Hagar Dawg - schauzer mix
Steeler - (for the Pittsburgh STeelers) - lab/rott mix
Skippy - shepherd mix
Sophie - cocker

Precious - grey tabby
Baby - orange tabby

Much prefer Dogs to cats. I had cats before I got dogs and wouldn't go back. I leave the cat loving to my best friends. :)

Right now I have two dogs, each are 4 yrs old. The Sheltie is named buttons and the schnauzer's name is Sam. Sam is a terrorist, into everything, we had to put an electric fence around the back to keep him in. He killed all the neighbor lady's chickens. But he also is a sweetie. We have decided after these two dogs go, we will be dogless for a while.

i'm not out to hurt anybody's feelings. so just tell me and i'll announce an end and ask that people stop posting.
