Default chevron fabric

I was just handed a new project for my DD using chevron fabric. It seems to be the IN thing now, but I hate working with it as it is never printed on grain. How do you cut a square and keep the points of the chevron straight? Or do you just cut a strip and ignore that the points are going uphill? HELP!

I don't worry about grain when I'm quilting. When I'm garment sewing, yes. But not with quilting. I'd cut a square using the print as a guideline.

eta: what kind of project were you handed? If she wants a chevron quilt, you could always sew chevrons out of solids.

There are times when it's feasible to cut your fabric on print, off grain. Sounds like it might apply here. Please post a photo when you get going on it.

After washing the fabric - and letting it revert to whatever it wants to do -

When working with a "design element" - I will ignore the grain lines to get the look I want.

But I do cringe while doing it.

THANKS for the warning. I haven't used too much of this "IN" chevron fabrics. I dislike plaids because they look so wonky when the print is crooked.

Aye, I ignore grain in quilting for smaller pieces, other than trying to avoid bias cuts when feasible. If a print is crooked, I cut crooked and just don't worry about it. So far that hasn't caused any problems.

Recently I've been working with hexagons, so at least 2/3rds of my cuts are 'off grain' and that's helped me relax about it too.

What an eye opener! Another reason why I wouldn't choose chevron fabric. Good luck
