I use an Epson printer with durabrite ink. I can print on any fabric and it is waterproof.

You might try getting some Beacon fast finish decoupage. Mix it 3 tablespoons to a cup of water and very carefully dab ( I used make up sponges) this solution on the fabric. Don't brush because the color will run. It needs to be all covered. Let it dry completely. It will be a little stiffer than other fabric but it should be permanent then. I don't know if it needs to be heat set but I have anyway. I did this with plain white muslin I had printed on and have washed them with no change in color. You might experiment on another piece till you have the right formula then do your quilt.

Lucky you! I'm so jealous. This is the only guaranteed colorfast image transfer method...just wish more printers could use their inks!

And newbiequilter, that label on plain, untreated muslin will be lucky to be legible after two washes. Easy to print, yes; durable, no. Get some Bubble Jet Set if you plan to continue with muslin labels.

The quality of ink and printer depends on the purpose of using it and your budget. Epson, Canon etc. are some good quality printers.

Just wanted to share this interesting discovery I made while printing pictures on fabric sheets. http://www.quiltingboard.com/links-r...e-t197055.html

I just print them out on my computer with regular fabrics and heat set it. They hold up for me, but maybe mine haven't been washed enough to challenge the permanance of the ink.
