Default Question about quilt pics...

Does anyone else ever look at quilt pictures, especially those with heavy quilting, and at first or second look the quilting looks "inverted" - like the quilting stitches stand out and the "puffy" sort of recedes? Sometimes I have to look away and then back at a pic 2-3 times before it looks right to me - LOL. It mostly happens on pics on the 'net, but sometimes in book/magazine pictures too. I have a great eye doctor and my eyes are fine - but sometime I wonder about my brain - LOL!

That happens to me sometimes also. I think the lighting in the picture has some influence.

I do the same thing. Sometimes it seems as though the picture is of the back of the quilt!

Yes, it is like looking at a negative. I have to refocus my eyes to see it correctly. Thought it was just me!!!

The same phenomena happens with Magic Eye pictures ... I'm betting some of you who see quilts this way are often the first to see the image in those pictures and other optical illusions. Enjoy your amazing ability.

Exactly! Those stitches glare at me and everything else fades away.

Well, I'm so glad to hear this. Me too! I've had cataract surgery and I have 20-20 vision. BUT I have to get the picture up close into my near vision and the quilting will "puff" up like it is supposed to. that's my way to fix it. If I don't, it looks like you say. Barny PS Oh yes I can pull out those magic eye pictures. Just stare a little and out it pops.

THANK YOU!!!!! Soooooo glad it isn't just me!!!!! Was worried about my sight! Kept thinking I should make an appointment, now I can spend more on fabric! When Batman came back in the 80's (?) from the logo all I saw a mouth with little teeth and the thingy that dangles in the back of your throat. Took months and a very detailed description from my sons before I could see the "Bat"!! LOL Never could see the magic eye pictures. Could stare for hours and not see it.
