I just finished reading the post about the cost of repairing a sewing machine and thought it would be interesting to hear from others (longarm quilters or not) about the cost of quilting a quilt top.
What do you consider a reasonable charge for having a 90 inch by 108 inch(queen size) top quilted? Or you might give your reasonable square inch price.
You might want to break it down as to the "style" of quilting: pantograh? custom? and heirloom? And would that price include batting and thread?

I charge by the square inch. $0.15 up to $0.20 for edge to edge, $0.25 and up for custom. I don't do heirloom. Batting and thread are extra, batting is priced at retail, and thread is $1 per bobbin for solids and $2 per bobbin for variegated threads.

So for that size quilt, at $0.15 per square inch, the quilting would be $145.80, plus thread and batting.

I charge 1.5 cents per square inch for pantos and 2 cents per square inch for simple custom..ie in the ditch and meandering. I too will not do heirloom.
I charge a modest increase in the price of batting,, but not full retail.. right now it is $6 per yard for Hobbs 80/20 until I have to buy a new roll, then the price will increase based on the new cost at the time.
I dont charge extra for thread.
I charge actually shipping costs.. I dont make my money on shipping but on my labor.
If you want a panto that I do not own, I will discount the price of the quilting by 1/2 the price of the panto. In other words, you pay for 1/2 of the panto price,,

I've gotten quotes for a log cabin I just finished from .02 per sq. inch to .05 per sq. inch. I'm providing the thread @ 19.95+ s&h, and the batting( 2 queen size, the top is 107x130...)24.95x2 +s&h.
I'm going with the .02 price.
