Stitch width not at zero can do that -- but I don't think there'd be a setting that close to zero -- I had a similar problem with a mechanical Pfaff and it turned out that the machine was not completely re-setting when I went from zig zag back to straight stitch.

Stitch width (not stitch length) not at zero can do that -- but I don't think there'd be a setting that close to zero -- I had a similar problem with a mechanical Pfaff and it turned out that the machine was not completely re-setting when I went from zig zag back to straight stitch.

I thought it odd, too, that the OP said that the stitch width was at 2.5. However, I was able to locate a manual for the Brother xr3774 and on page 15 of the pdf it tells about if the straight or triple straight stitch is selected, that the "stitch width dial" will change the needle position. So it looks like the stitch width dial set at 2.5 will do a straight stitch in the center position.

The main page for the manual is at https://support.brother.com/g/b/manu...3=626&type2=69 and the manual link is https://download.brother.com/welcome...om_b03enes.pdf

As a side note, the OP hasn't been active since her last post on this thread.

Peckish, thank you for the current link for this informative bit of information
