I usually fabric-frame all my cross stitch pieces. Here are some of them. I have many more but haven't taken pictures of them yet.

edit: I love the cross stitch and hand embroidered look more than the machine embroidery and I have an embroidery machine! Something about making all those stitches by hand just gives more feeling to the project.

This is the whole cloth quilt I embroidered and my MIL quilted for my DD who is 43. You can tell is was well used.
I used the iron on patterns you bought back then.
