I'm curious how many of you made the "crossroads" block. Did you follow the directions that Eleanor had or did you use a quicker method? I did it the quicker method (where I sewed 3 or 4 red & white strips together and then I cut them at 2 1/2" strips). (Later when I was finished with the block, I turned the block on point and cut the sides. The sides came out great and I added the two corner triangles that were not a part of the strips.

(This is something like the 4 square speed piecing example at: http://www.quilt.com/HowTo/SpeedPiecingDirections.html

It went together but I'm not happy with some of my points.

I thought about redoing it using Eleanor's directions but it seems to me that the more pieces you have to put together, the more chances you have to get the points off.

Please give me comments on how you made your block and how well the points went with doing it that way.

I noticed that El uses speedy methods most of the time but not always.
She tests her patterns many times over before publishing them.
So I learned that when she does something the long way there is a reason for it.
I have watched all of her videos and she has some really good shortcuts that you only see once. I wish she would do a video on all her methods.
I love her method for HST and Flying Geese. Her square up ruler is great for HST too. I like the way she does mitered borders also.
Binding her way is great too.
I have never had a quilt made her way that didnt turn out well.

Thanks Rose Marie. I believe that I will go back and try it again but do it her way.

I did the URR last year, and I really enjoyed doing E.B's methods and the blocks went together beautifully. :)

Ok, I guess I'm out of the loop, but what does URR stand for?

Oh, ok. I guess what confused me was that the post was about the crossroads block which now I am assuming is one of the blocks from the underground railroad quilt. See, I do catch on eventually, lol.
