We've had quite a few new people who aren't familiar with the Dear Jane quilt and have questions about it, the swaps, and the cyber party.
In 1863 Jane Stickle made a quilt consisting of 225 unique blocks, triangles, and kites.
The quilt became wildly popular due to the book Dear Jane which is a day journal by the author while she was drafting all the blocks/triangles/kites from the quilt.
Since the introduction of the book the quilt has become a milestone quilt for every quilter to make during her/his quilting career.
The original quilt by Jane Stickle is called the Mother Quilt and all the other quilts are called Baby Janes.
A Baby Jane is any quilt that uses some or all of the original blocks/triangles/kites.
You can use whatever layout you like and what ever fabric you like in your Baby Jane.
Some people prefer to do an exact replica of the original while others prefer to be inspired by the original and chart their own path and design ideas.
The jane quilts can be very addicting - its like eating potato chips - you just can't stop at one.
these addicting people are commonly referred to as Janiacs.
