Does any one know of an American sewing machine that will run in Germany. Our son is in the military in Germany and his wife has a new singer and even with the adapter, it will not work, because of the mghz.

With several little children, it is nice to be able to sew.
thanks for any help.

She would probably be better off buying a cheap one, maybe at the PX. The computerized machines don't like the stepdown with the convertors. Just buy one to be used over there and maybe she can sell it when they are re-stationed.

Tell her not to even try operating her new machine with an adapter. It'll slowly burn out the motor. I blew up both a sewing machine and an electric typewriter this way! (Electric typewriter? Tells you how long ago that experience was, but still, I wish I'd been warned!) I also regret not buying a Pfaff machine while I was living in Germany. Don't miss that opportunity!

My Bernina 630 will run on any current. I don't know if all their models are capable of auto-dection and switching. It does require cords that will fit into the different types of receptacles found in other countries.

I lived in Germany for 6 yrs and they do have transformer boxes that the machine can be hooked up then the euro adapter into the wall. However, caution: it will shorten the life of the machine :(

Yup. I have done the same thing with a really expensive hi-fi I bought back from the US, and with some nice hair curlers too. She will be best off buying a local machine.

Hi
I have a pfaff that has a button on it to change the frequency. That would likely work in Germany
