I am trying to make a space quilt for a little boy. I can't find just the fabric I want (which drives me crazy!!) though I did find a cotton bed sheet that is exactly what I want. How do you quilters feel about using a bed sheet that is 250 thread count instead of actual fabric? Thanks!!

Like most quilters here say...there's no rules. If you want to use it, go for it. :D

I think using sheets for quilt tops is a great idea. They make wonderful, lightweight summer quilts, and add lots of opportunity for others to get sheets, pillowcases, and other bedroom items to match with great ease. If you want to add a border you can or simple scallops . Why not? I bet it will be a hit! Talk about your washability.:D It also gives great opportunity to practice machine quilting or even hand quilting.

I think sheets are great, especially if you have one that meets your needs. I love to use them for backing, but have done tied comforters (I know, they are not really quilts!) for my kids to use. they love them because they don't feel like they have to be so careful with them. :-)

What a great idea using sheets. What do you use for batting? :)

All your thoughts are such great imput thanks!!!

For batting I usually just use a low loft so the quilts are super heavy!

I have found a medium to high loft works as well, especially if it is for the warmer to hot climates that may have high humidity. It gives just the right amount of warmth to take off the late night chill.

who says they aren't quilts? If they're pieced or appliqued they certainly ought to qualify. so what if they're fat and fluffy? so are a lot of quilters!

(at heart!!! at heart!!! geez ... what did you think i meant?)
