I think oohing and awwing over something you like is just a natural reaction to something you like. If a quilt has work or colors you admire, it's a compliment to the quilter. If someone did that to my quilts I would be thrilled.

Maybe she was just annoyed that your 6 yr old was there and didn't want him to speak... not a nice lady in my opinion. You might have a future quilter there and she was discouraging his creativity.

I'm wondering if you're not allowed to ooh and ahh because if there's someone who's quilt isn't oohed and ahhhed at, they get their feelings hurt. I've heard of this happening at guild meetings.

I usually say "Oh wow, cool." I have been told that I use the word "cool" too often. Can't help it though I grew up in the 60's. Lol.

Well you said he said "ooh and ahhh" many times. How many times, exactly? Maybe it was nice the first couple times, but if he just kept at it without any break in the oohing and ahhhing I can see how it might be a little irksome. My kids do it too hehe, especially my five year old. She doesn't understand yet that something she does once may be cute, but after the 20th time she's done it within the space of 60 seconds, it went from cute to OMG-STOP-IT-NOW-annoying! She just sees the initial reaction (how cute!) and wants to get that reaction again...and again...and again...lol!

I ooh and aah all the time. What's wrong with that.

Thinking at 6 years old, his response was what most kids would do...she sounds like a bit of a grump...

Maybe next time she shows a quilt you could pinch your nose and make a face. Bet she won't appreciate that either. Ohh and awww means you like it. I appreciate any ohhs and awwws.
