I'm working on cutting up my scraps into usable pieces (different thread) and it got me wondering - how many of you actually use your scraps on a regular basis?

When I started quilting, I knew not to throw my scraps away since I would make scrap quilts "some day". Fast forward 4 or so years later, and I had only opened the scrap bin a few times and then to only get a piece or 2. Now that the scraps are overflowing from the bin, I'm going to try to do something with them... and it got me thinking, I'm sure I'm not the only one who collects scraps but doesn't actually do anything with them... right??

I am starting to use mine. I am working on a paper pieced quilt now and trying to use up the smaller pieces when I can. So far, it's going well and I can see doing this again in the future. It's the only way I'd work with such small pieces.

I am getting more motivated to use some up. Partly with the swaps going on here, as well as a project my gf is working on. She has been off work for a week...sick. And still managed to put together about 3/4 of a quilt top!!!! all from scraps.

I use my scraps for log cabin quilts, courthouse steps or split rail! Great for table runners, or placemats or lap quilts!

I use mine. Not alot but I find myself going through my scrap bin for my wallhangers or tablerunners. Alot of times I just need a little peice of green for a leaf or a purple for a flower that I applique. There are probably alot of them in my bin that I would never use but as soon as I got rid of them I would find a use for them. Hang on to them you never know what your projects in the future will require. :D

Last year my daughter came home from college for Christmas, and while driving the 3 hour drive, she mentioned she wanted to make a quilt for the boyfriend with a wolf panel in the center and whatever around it. She just didn't tell me right away that he was going to visit us for New Year and we only had one and a half week to put together a full size quilt. I had the panel, she went through the already cut scraps to select only masculin patterns and colors, and yada, tada, yada, I finished binding the quilt the same day he arrived. If those scraps were not already cut and ready to go, we would not have finished on time.

Since them I have made two "emergency" quilts, if that qualifies as an emergency, one with half square triangles made form the squares already there and one with full squares.

I use my scraps. I look at the larger pieces every time I start a quilt. I made this quilt all from scraps, front and back. Since I like log cabin quilts, I concentrate on saving strips.

I don't use them a lot, but I actually just made a pumpkin shaped and "christmas " tree shaped pot holder with my scraps over the weekend! I was proud that I used some because I have so many. I also try and use them for small things like bookmarks, coasters and eyeglass cases. Also use them for Applique.
