My son wants a new sewing machine ( so he doesn't have to wait to use mine.) :-D He is looking at a Pfaff Select 3.0. Does any one else have this machine. Is it a good one? Any info would be great. I don't want to spend to much money for a machine that isn't really nice.

You can go to http://www.patternreview.com and check for reviews of this machine. Click on the sm/serger category and search on the model. Pfaff has a good reputation, but it's always important to look at customer reviews of the exact model you are considering.

I have 3 Pfaffs and planning to look at Janome to trade in the latest Pfaff. It is driving me to curse and drink! (Not that I really need a lot of encouragement) but I am disappointed in the machine for many reasons.

I am a Pfaff owner and I believe the current thought is that the newer Pfaffs are no where near as good as the older Pfaffs that were all metal and made in germany. Pfaff has been sold a number of times and I think the quality control has gone down. I have two Pfaffs from the early 80s and they are both awesome, but I can't speak for anything that has been made in the last 3 decades!

I have a 3.0 and never had any problems with it, but I only used it for 7 mths and it worked really well for me, but I got Janome 6600 because of wanting to quilt bigger items. I was thinking of selling it not sure yet.

Any reason another brand won't do? I'd say check out the high end Kenmores. They are great! And very reasonable in price.
