my goal this year was to try a new quilt pattern every month....did great in the beginning...Yes pick, cut, sew, quilt and finish in one month..... It can be done, when you have no husband, no job and no life......

No! Quilting is my oasis! I can sit in my little area here, with an audio book, a glass of wine and just relax and do my thing. If I get discouraged at something or someone or upset or upsot, I go to my quilting. It is my friend. I do my best thinking, planning, making decisions while I am quilting/sewing on my quilt. I won't call it an escape, because I am not one to escape, but I do call it my refuge, my strength in time of trouble. God gave me the ability to put a quilt together to keep myself together and while I can still do this, I will, and thank Him for the ability to do so. Edie

It is a hobby to me. I don't have one ounce of artistic talent, I wish I did. I don't consider myself as a good quilter but certainly enjoy trying. I just march to the beat of my own drum and enjoy what I do although I am always out of step. I admire all the great talent on this board and enjoy oohing and aahing at all the beautiful things made whether it be a hobby, an art, a craft or, like mine, (just a mess).

Here is the definition of hobby-
a pursuit outside one's regular occupation engaged in especially for relaxation.
With me I'm always reading, taking classes, joining groups, to learn more about what I like to do. I think most people that are passionate about what they do would not call there passion a hobby.

I can see where you are coming from but for me it is a hobby. I am doing it for me and I love it. Will not put myself under undue pressure. If I do sell some items it is more money for fabric etc.

Oh I like what you just said so much better than "hobby." I have been trying to get my retired DH to choose a hobby and he doesn't want one. Maybe if I talk to him about it in the manner you just did, he might think it would be worthwhile. :)

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I am passionate about my quilting. Great way to describe it.

I feel the same way and it's very therapeutic :)
