I am very proud to say that I am the enabler for my wife's hobby, and she is the enabler for my hobby. It is no coincidence that we are on both ends of the sewing stick -- she a quilter and I a sewing machine nut! One begats the other. whenever she has had a particularly hard day at work (she is a NICU nurse and has been one for 28 years) I just say to her "Road Trip" and I see the tension in her face go away. A road trip for her/us is a round robin excursion through the heart of the Amish country -- Lancaster, PA -- and many outlying areas that offer loads of fabric shopping. It also gets me into some trouble if I run across a really pristine treadle: can't fit them in a Honda Civic hybrid! What is more fun is when she finds an old treadle head and says "go get it!" Well, that has led to her now wanting to restore a head she found for $10. I am taking her through the process step-by-step as that is what I enjoy doing most, restoring the old treasures. Our passions combined years ago and now being "co-dependent fabric/sewing machine enablers" yes, I just created that definition, has brought us even closer. We are 23 years married and really enjoy our time enabling ourselves in our combined hobby/passion.

My husband is very supportive, too. He has even gone to a quilt shops on business trip to get me a pattern! The ladies at the store were very impressed! We took a trip through New England and our stops were planning from the quilting travel book. He did appreciate the porch at Keepsake Quilting! The only thing I had to do on the trip was go through the Baseball Hall of Fame and not complain! But there is a good quilt shop in the area, so not too bad.

My DH doesn't know half the time what I am doing and doesn't care either. No support on anything I do around here. BUT that's ok. I have gotten used too it. He does anything he wants in the yard including cutting down all my flowers and I do what I want too in the house. Of course I have too if it is ever cleaned up HA HA

How nice. He seems to provide enough attention without getting your way or making you feel guillty. He appreciates the finished product and he abviously knows what has gone into it fabric wise and time wise.

I feel very lucky to have a supportive husband to all my hobbies, not just quilting. He likes to see the fabrics I bought, he listens to all my mumbling about upcoming projects, problems with what I am working on and other quilt-related things I tend to rabble about. He already knows many quilty terms, including but not limited to, fussy cit, OBW, fat quarter, applique and FMQ. He always praises my finished quilts, and when I need opinions about planning the quilt or while I am making it, he'll actively participate. He also may occasionally join me to the quilt shops and he drew a design for a quilt he wanted to make for him( which I did). The one thing, he wouldn't accompany me to quilt shows, which is all well, because then I'll feel guilty spending so much time there.

I feel very blessed to have him.

My DH has always encouraged me in everything I do. In Sewing will buy sewing machines, embroidery machines and a serger. I just mention something and I usually receive it. He says we are going to the VA so will stop at Joanns or Michaels. Of course this has worked both ways. Married 46 years and I will keep him for sure.

Does your DH have a twin? If he does, I think he lives here with me.

My husband bought quilt our quilting machine. One morning in April he got up and said that we need to buy a quilting machine. We talked to several people and quilted a quilt at the sewing store. It was lots of fun, we have been quiliting everyday since. In fact, we are opening a fabric, quilting and embroidery(I already have an embroidery business) in October. He can not go to a fabric store without buying fabric. He quilts and pins the binding on. He is GREAT. He also vacuums and cooks.

My DH is like yours, too. He is forever finding ways to make my sewing room better. Like covering one whole wall with styrofoam insulation and quilt batting. It is a dream wall to design on. He has even designed a really neat cone spool holder for my friends and I. We are going to sell them at the country store when we have our Quilt show. What a guy. Aren't they great sometimes?
